PARTY TIME FOR PRE-SCHOOLERS

Friday the 21st October was a day full of laughter, balloons and sweets for the active pre-schoolers. Lorna Schreiber is a special woman who has always held JWCC close to her heart. So much so that this year, Lorna "adopted" six children by covering their annum school fees. These children are adored by the retired maitron, which is why Lorna decided the best way to spend her 80th birthday would be with the pre-school.

With a table full of popcorn, lollies and sweets all 105 children feasted!

JWCC TO BUILD NEW PRESCHOOL BUILDING

Bearing giant Timken and CEO and President James W. Griffith have committed to a substantial amount to the Centre in aid of developing the pre-school.

The funds will go towards building four new classrooms, a dining hall, kitchen, offices and ablutions. The new facilities will allow the Centre to improve the educational facilities and standards of educational for all children (aged between 1 and 6 years old) attending the pre-school. The goal is to have two registered Grade R classes, providing the children with the best start to their schooling careers.

The new classrooms will also enable more children to attend the pre-school.

At present the pre-school is made up of modified shipping containers. Building is expected to commence later on this year.

USA MISSIONARIES VISIT CENTRE

Last week, the JWCC opened its doors to welcome 15 American young missionaries. For three days the foreigners experienced life first-hand for a JWCC staff member.

They accompanied Care-workers on emotional home visitations and spent mornings burning energy with a hundred pre-schoolers.

From St Marks United Methodist Church, Tennessee, the guests were here as part of a two week trip in which they assisted NPO’s and experienced African culture.

JWCC staff members were amused at the accents and were grateful for the few extra hands.  The children were treated to a comical puppet show and were given ‘sidewalk chalk’ in which they left their impressions all over the courtyard.

Thank you St Marks for your embracing attitude- it was a great cultural experience- for both parties. We look forward to hopefully seeing “y’all” again!

Preschool Development

We have recently added a babies group - 6 months to 18 months old - to assist those mothers who need someone to care for their child while they work to earn an income to support the family. This creates a challenge for us as we now need extra resources to support their needs - like nappies, wet wipes, bottles, baby food, milk, formula, clothes and so on. We would also like to take on extra staff or support volunteers and we would like to give them specialised training.

If you think you can help or would like to support this project please contact us at info@jwcc.co.za and we will get in touch with you immediately.
